The British electric motorcycle land-speed world record program’s creator, White Motorcycle Concepts (WMC), has introduced the world’s first fully electric, rapid-charging motorcycle, made especially to satisfy the demands of first responders and fleets around the globe.
With a range of 100 miles or 160 kilometers, the WMC300E+ can be fully charged in less than 15 minutes with a regular CCS charger, all thanks to a novel battery design created by MAHLE Powertrain.
“The whole industry is facing a huge technical and commercial challenge to produce an electric motorcycle with performance close to its petrol equivalent,” said Robert White, Founder & CEO, White Motorcycle Concepts.
Two key components that make it special are an inventive battery design and an impressive aerodynamic performance. The first uses the patented V-Duct from WMC, a venturi duct that runs down the middle of the bike and significantly reduces aerodynamic drag, increasing stability, boosting performance, and using less energy. The WMC300E+’s optimized dual-channel design increases aerodynamic efficiency by 25% thanks to the company’s land-speed record initiative, which helped refine the idea behind this central air duct.
Key to the bike’s rapid charging, and therefore its high operational availability, is a unique battery concept, developed and built by specialist engineering provider MAHLE Powertrain. For motorcycles, the transition to an electric powertrain enables greater packaging freedoms and it is this principle that shaped the battery form.
The battery cell features advanced Lithium Cobalt Oxide with Nickel Manganese Aluminium chemistry, capable of sustaining high charge rates yet also remarkably resistant to ageing for a longer lifespan.
