Volvo plans to introduce a new long-range FH Electric truck next year that can travel up to 600 kilometers on a single charge. As a result, transportation companies will be able to use electric vehicles for long-distance and interregional travel and drive all day without needing to refuel. In the latter part of 2025, the new Volvo FH Electric will go on sale.
“Our new electric flagship will be a great complement to our wide range of electric trucks and enable zero-exhaust emission transport also for the longer distances. It will be a great solution for transport companies with a high annual mileage on their trucks and with a strong commitment to reduce CO2,” says Roger Alm, President Volvo Trucks.
Extended-range driveline technology
Volvo’s innovative driveline technology, the so-called e-axle, makes it possible for the vehicle to go 600 kilometers because it makes room for a noticeably larger battery pack inside. The increased range is also a result of improved battery management, more effective batteries, and overall powertrain economy.
Volvo Trucks leads the world in medium- and heavy-duty electric truck manufacturing, with eight battery-electric variants. The large selection of products enables the electrification of waste management, construction, long-distance transportation, and city and regional distribution. More than 3,800 electric trucks have been supplied by Volvo to clients in 46 nations so far.
“The transport sector represents seven percent of global carbon emissions. Battery-electric trucks are important tools to reduce the climate footprint. Besides the important environmental gains that electric trucks bring, they offer truck drivers a much better working environment, with much lower levels of noise and vibrations,” says Roger Alm.
Volvo Trucks plans to use a three-path technology strategy to reach its net-zero emissions target by 2040.
