With the signing of a significant deal with Transdev Netherlands, Volvo Buses has placed its biggest order for electric buses to date. The city of Utrecht’s public transportation electrification will be aided by an order of 46 fully electric buses, which are expected to start operating on December 14, 2025.
The buses are a part of Volvo Buses’ official partnership with MCV, which provides the bus bodies. They include a new front design and enhanced driver comfort and safety features. Along with a renovated driver station with a dynamic instrument cluster and updated control panel, the new cars will also feature Volvo’s cutting-edge active safety features aimed at safeguarding cyclists and pedestrians.
Along with the bus order, Transdev and Volvo Buses have signed a Usable Energy Commitment that will ensure the energy required for bus operations for the ensuing ten years. “This order shows the confidence Transdev has in Volvo Buses as a strong partner for operating electrified public transport,” said Bas Dubois, Managing Director of Volvo Buses Benelux, who expressed pride in the partnership’s milestone.
As Volvo Buses continues to bolster its position in the European e-mobility industry, the electric bus chassis will be manufactured at the company’s Borås plant in Sweden, with MCV supplying the bodywork.
