The VW Group unveiled an initiative to introduce all-electric entry-level cars to the European market. Under the initiative, the globe will witness tiny electric automobiles costing about €20,000, with a 2027 launch date.
Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen Group, said, “Generations of people associate the strong brands of the Volkswagen Group with their first car – and with affordable mobility.” “We still take on this societal obligation. For this reason, I’m thrilled that we’re starting a project that looks to the future. It has to do with affordable electric transportation from Europe to Europe.
With this effort, Volkswagen is demonstrating its dedication to achieving universal electromobility, a goal highlighted by CEO of the Volkswagen brand and head of the Core brand group Thomas Schäfer. “Our electric cars will set standards in the entry-level segment in terms of technology, design, quality, and customer experience, despite the attractive price,” Schäfer declared.
The project aims to significantly localise production, which will improve Europe’s industrial environment. By reducing lengthy component transit routes, this plan not only promotes European industrial policy but also lowers CO2 emissions.
Intensive work is already underway on the “Electric Urban Car Family,” targeting electric cars under €25,000 by the end of 2025. This lineup will include two compact cars from VW and CUPRA, and two small SUVs from Škoda and VW, all manufactured in Spain.
Volkswagen’s latest venture marks a significant milestone in the journey towards widespread electromobility in Europe, promising affordable, sustainable transportation solutions in a rapidly evolving market.
