French automaker Valeo intends to capitalize on the country’s passenger car industry’s rising need for ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance Systems). The business forecasts global penetration of up to Level-2 + ADAS features to reach 50% by 2030 and sees India as one of the fastest-growing ADAS markets in the world. It is also counting on legislation to hasten the democratization of safety technology in India.
“ADAS is expected to grow faster than expected in India, and every car will require some minimum form of ADAS functionalities in the coming years,” said Jayakumar G, Group President and Managing Director, Valeo India. “We anticipate that India’s ADAS will become more democratic with more government support.”
Valeo India intends to localize ADAS technology in the nation in anticipation of the possible surge in demand in what is referred to be a value-conscious market. “We will develop the business plan and proceed in that direction as soon as we have the volumes and orders from customers,” Jayakumar said. “We have done this with a few of our EV components, such as the Pune-based three-in-one integrated unit, ultrasonic parking sensors, and the cameras we are using right now. Increased levels of localization and hence lower costs would result from volumes and scale. In this technological field, cost parity will emerge in this manner,” he confirmed.
Globally, Valeo is a major provider of ADAS components to OEMs for use in their ADAS packages inside automobiles. These components include its software, high-performance computing units, and sensors including cameras, radars, and LiDARs. For example, the business was awarded the Honda Supplier Award in the development category in 2021 for providing the sensors and high-performance on-board control units that enabled the Honda Legend’s Level-3 ADAS capabilities.
