Accelerating the mobility ecosystem towards electrification, Uttarakhand’s transport department has decided to install EV charging stations every 26 km along the Char Dham Yatra routes.
This will ensure that there is no emission and protect the environment.
According to the state’s transportation department, the government will establish a network with 154 electric vehicle charging stations that will cover approximately 4,500 km of roads in the hill state.
The EV charging network will be implemented in phases.
It will initially cover 12 routes in Garhwal and 9 in Kumaon. It is estimated that the project will cost approximately Rs 40 crore.
Similar arrangements are made in Kumaon, where these locations are designated on the route to tourist and pilgrimage sites.
33 locations have been identified by the state government as Char Dham yatra routes for the installation of EV charging stations.
The proposed EV charging stations on Char Dham routes will cover about 950 km in the next year. The second phase would see one charging station installed for every 100 km in the state by 2025.
Joint Transport Commissioner, Sanat Kumar Singh, stated that the proposal had been sent to the state and the state has sent it to Centre.
All stations will be completed next spring after receiving permission to install EV charging points along the Char Dham Yatra route.
The Char Dham Yatra route will be followed by the Uttarakhand transport division, which will install charging points at 50 and 100-km intervals throughout the state. This department has its resources.
The complete proposal has been submitted by the state to the Centre for approval.
Singh said that along with this, the third phase will see an electric charging point at a distance equal to every 50 km in the state by 2030.
