In its logistical operations, UltraTech Cement Limited intends to employ more electric vehicles (EV trucks). About 100 EV trucks will be deployed through a transport service contract that the company has signed.
With a round-trip distance of roughly 400 kilometers, these vehicles will move 75,000 MT of clinker each month between UltraTech’s integrated cement producing facility at Dhar Cement Works in Madhya Pradesh and its grinding facility at Dhule Cement Works in Maharashtra.
The successful January 2024 trial project, which included five EV trucks traveling the same route, is being followed by this endeavor. As part of the trial, truck drivers received specialized training and charging infrastructure was set up. UltraTech has made the decision to increase the number of EV trucks it uses in its operations based on the pilot’s results. The company intends to carry out another experiment for moving clinker between two of its other manufacturing facilities and is also assessing potential routes for future deployment.
K C Jhanwar, Managing Director of UltraTech Cement Limited, commented on the effort, saying that the company’s sustainability objectives and commitment to reaching Net Zero emissions by 2050 are in line with the growth of EV trucks. UltraTech has implemented sustainable logistics methods, such as using EV trucks beginning in 2024, LNG cars since 2022, and CNG vehicles since 2021.
In the future, UltraTech intends to implement 500 electric vehicles by June 2025 as a component of the eFAST program of the Government of India. The company now transports goods and supplies between several production facilities using a fleet of 468 CNG and 67 LNG trucks.
To increase the sustainability of its logistical operations, UltraTech Cement Limited is gradually increasing the number of electric trucks it uses. The company has announced intentions to deploy 100 more electric trucks for the delivery of clinker, following the successful pilot program that was started in January 2024. These trucks will travel 400 kilometers round-trip between UltraTech’s integrated cement producing facility at Dhar Cement Works in Madhya Pradesh and the grinding facility at Dhule Cement Works in Maharashtra.
