Uber has introduced Uber Moto Women, a Bengaluru-based bike taxi service specifically for women. By matching female drivers and female passengers, the service provides a flexible income option for female drivers while also addressing the safety and mobility concerns of women. The service, which was created based on feedback from female users, attempts to give women who prefer female drivers a quick, safe, and reasonably priced form of transportation.
To improve the riding experience, the Uber Moto Women service integrates technologically advanced safety features. Real-time tracking is made possible by the ability for riders to share trip information with up to five trusted contacts. While the RideCheck tool keeps an eye out for anomalies like lengthy stops, mid-way drops, or route modifications and offers assistance when needed, features like anonymizing phone numbers and drop-off addresses are designed to preserve customer privacy. Women drivers and riders can also get priority support by calling the Safety Helpline, which is open around-the-clock.
The initiative aims to create livelihood opportunities for women in addition to addressing safety. In India, bike taxis have the potential to generate up to 5.4 million new job opportunities, per the KPMG analysis. It is anticipated that this service would inspire more women to become drivers on the platform, as female involvement in the ride-hailing industry is still low. It may be more accessible for female drivers due to a number of variables, including better navigation, lower travel distances, and flexible working hours. Depending on their preferences, drivers can choose to accept exclusively female riders or all rides through the platform.
