In the recent round of crash testing, the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) awarded the Tata Nexon EV a flawless 5-star rating. In tests conducted with the Punch EV, the Nexon EV achieved a 5-star safety rating for both occupant and adult protection.
The Nexon EV received a 5-star rating for adult occupant protection with a score of 29.86 out of a possible 32 points. The e-SUV received a score of 14.26 out of 16 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and 15.60/16 in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test, out of the two tests that were conducted.
As for the child occupant protection, the Nexon EV scored a dynamic score of 23.95/24, a CRS (child restraint system) installation score of 12/12 and 9 points out of 13 for vehicle assessment. The Nexon EV was crash tested in May 2024, and the results are applicable for both the Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR) versions of the electric SUV.
The Nexon EV is the second electric vehicle assessed by Bharat NCAP after the Punch EV that also secured an identical safety rating for both adult and child occupancy.
There’s not much that separates the Bharat NCAP from Global NCAP and the processes implemented by each organisation. One of the major differences, though, is that under Global NCAP, the maximum score that can be attained for AOP is 34 points, while under Bharat NCAP, it is 32 points. Other than this, the crash test protocols and assignment of ratings seem to be quite similar. Here’s an in-depth look at what’s different between the two crash test ratings.
