Indian automotive brand, Tata Motors has announced its sales figures wherein the company has sold nearly 7,000 electric vehicles in March, a 100 percent increase over the same month last year, with MG Motor coming in second.
After Ola Electric, TVS Motor Company ranks second in the market for electric two-wheelers.
Tata Motors sold 7,137 EVs during the month, up 107% year on year (y-o-y) from the 3,444 units sold in March 2022, according to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). “Looking ahead, we expect demand for personal vehicles to remain robust, with the electrification trend strengthening as more options are made available to customers, as well as support from a rapidly growing and improving ecosystem,” said Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.
In March, MG Motor India sold 494 electric vehicles, a 420 per cent year-over-year increase from the 95 units it sold in the same month last year. With 237 sales of its electric vehicles, Mahindra & Mahindra moved up to fourth place, up from just 18 sales in the same month last year.
Electric PVs retail sales increased to 8,566 units in March, up from 3,718 units in the same month last year. This is a 130% increase year over year.
Ola Electric sold 21,274 e-Scooters in the two-wheeler market, a 132 percent increase over the 9,145 units sold in March 2022. TVS Motor Company’s retail sales of the iQube electric scooter jumped sevenfold to 16,768 units in March 2022, up from 2,392 units in March 2022.
However, Hero Electric’s retail sales fell 49% year on year to 6,652 units in March, compared to 13,029 units in the same month last year. Okinawa Autotech had a similar drop, decreasing over 46% year on year to 4,507 units from 8,285 units in March 2022.
According to FADA data, the total number of electric two-wheelers sold rose by 58% year on year to 85,793 units, up from 54,400 units in the same month last year.
