Tata Motors plans to introduce two electric vehicles (EVs) during the current fiscal year, which concludes on March 31, 2025. The domestic brand, Harrier EV, has now announced that it will also launch this fiscal year, joining the Curvv EV, which we previously revealed would arrive this holiday season.
The Harrier EV will employ the company’s acti.ev architecture, just as the already-available Punch EV and the soon-to-be Curvv EV. Although the car is built on the same Omega platform—derived from Land Rover—as the ICE-powered Harrier, it has undergone significant engineering changes to accommodate an electric drivetrain. Inside, we anticipate the Harrier EV to have a level floor, and Tata has stated that it would have vehicle-to-load (V2L).
Although the Harrier EV’s battery capacity and range are still unknown, we anticipate that it will have a 60kWh battery pack that provides roughly 500 km of range on a single charge. The SUV will have all-wheel drive thanks to electric motors mounted on each axle.
Other details about the Harrier EV that are known include its design. The SUV concept showcased at Auto Expo 2023 was a close-to-production model, which means most of what we’ve seen – from the closed off grille area and new front and rear bumpers to the coupe-like roofline – will be on offer. Interior details, however, are scarce on the ground. Still, we expect most bits to be shared with the Harrier and Safari, along with some highlights from Tata’s current range of EVs.
When it arrives, the Harrier EV is likely to have a direct rival in the form of Mahindra’s XUV700-based XUV.e8, which is expected to join the fray before the end of this year. Harrier EV and Mahindra XUV.e8 prices are expected to start above Rs 30 lakh, ex-showroom.
