Kerala Industries minister P Rajeeve has announced that the state government has been planning to set up a special zone for the electric vehicle (EV) industry.
Addressing the inaugural summit of Electric vehicle owners Kerala (EVOK) in Kochi, the Industries minister said, “It is envisaged that battery production, technology development and other allied businesses can function in the special zone.”
He said that the government is encouraging Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and private companies to set up more fast charging stations in the state.
As per reports, the EVOK is going to set up 30 fast charging stations at various places in Kerala. The 30 charging stations are included in the first phase and later it will be expanded to 100.
Hibi Eden, MP, inaugurated the initiative and launched a mobile application to help EV owners access the charging stations without any hiccups. The mobile application is developed in cooperation with startup firm ChargeMOD.
EVOK is spreading awareness of the need to switch to the EV sector and guidelines on how to use EVs.
It also spreads awareness on solar power usage in houses, charging of EVs in solar power and eco-friendly activities.
During the summit, an exhibition of allied industries of EVs was also held.
EVOK state president Anchal Rejimon, Secretary Rajasenan Nair, ChargeMOD CEO Ramanunni were among those who attended the event.
