Sona BLW Precision Forgings has become the first automobile component producer to be certified under the Auto Production Linked Incentive (PLI) programme. The business submitted seven applications for various goods under the PLI system and achieved certification for its first product, a hub wheel drive motor for electric two-wheelers.
The EV traction motors were created and developed in-house by the company’s R&D team, and they went into production in 2020. Sona Comstar has emerged as one of India’s top producers of EV traction motors due to the high demand from EV manufacturers for its goods. To encourage the home industry to produce high-end, cutting-edge automotive technology goods and cars, the government launched the Auto PLI programme in 2021. The PLI initiative for the automotive and auto component industries would cost Rs 259 billion over the course of five years, beginning in FY2023–2024.
Vivek Vikram Singh, MD and Group CEO of Sona Comstar, said, “We are proud to be the first company in the auto component industry to receive the PLI certification. We thank the MHI, IFCI Limited and GARC for this approval. This recognition reaffirms the company’s commitment to making India proud of its engineering skills and solving complex and customized engineering problems for its customers. At Sona Comstar, we are dedicated to promoting greener, safer and smarter mobility globally through the development, engineering and manufacturing of products in India.”
