River has started the deliveries of its debut electric scooter, the Indie, in Bengaluru.
The first group of pre-order customers received their vehicles during an official event.
The scooter was initially launched in India in February, with production starting in August at the company’s manufacturing facility in Hoskote.
River plans to announce a price revision for the Indie due to changes in the FAME II subsidy program. However, the initial batch of customers received their scooters at the originally quoted price of ₹1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).
The company is also preparing to open its first experience center in Bengaluru, expected to be accessible to the public by November. Since its inception in March 2021, River has secured $28 million in funding from prominent investors to accelerate its electric mobility efforts. The company aims to sell 100,000 units of the high-speed electric scooter by 2025.
The Indie electric scooter is powered by a 6.7 kWh electric motor, delivering 26 Nm of torque.
It utilizes a belt drive to propel the scooter from 0-40 kmph in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 90 kmph. The motor is paired with a 4-kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of 120 km on a single charge.
The scooter boasts a distinctive design with dual front LED headlamps, integrated LED daytime running lights, and LED taillights.
It features a fully digital six-inch color instrument cluster, a spacious 20-inch footboard, 43-liter under-seat storage, and a 12-liter glove box, among other features.
The scooter rides on 14-inch black alloy wheels with robust tires and features a 240 mm disc brake at the front and a 200 mm disc at the rear.
Suspension duties are handled by a telescopic setup in the front and a twin hydraulic system at the rear.
