A UK startup called RBW EV Cars, which manufactures electric versions of vintage sports cars, said that it has established a supplier company to supply other automakers with its electric systems and parts for comparable luxury, limited-edition products.
Peter Swain, the CEO, told Reuters that RBW was collaborating with three big manufacturers on limited-edition vehicles, but he was unable to reveal the identities.
Established in 2017, RBW uses an EV battery and powertrain developed by Continental unit Continental Engineering Services to transform newly-built bodies of two iconic MG car models, the MGB and MGB GT, into electric vehicles with a range of 155 miles (250 km) and starting prices of about 100,000 pounds ($130,000).
Investors have contributed $18 million to RBW so far. At a factory in Lichfield, central England, the company recently began producing EVs. In early 2025, it plans to start production at a second facility in Danville, Virginia.
According to Swain, RBW wants to produce 300 EVs under its own brand each year in addition to up to 3,000 EV systems for other automakers through its Spirit EV division.
Automakers may purchase RBW’s system, which is already approved for usage and in production, for between $40,000 and $50,000 instead of investing millions of dollars creating their own, according to Swain.
According to him, any historic automobile body, including Mustangs, Aston Martins, and Corvettes, can be modified to employ RBW’s rear-wheel drive systems, which house the EV battery where the engine would have been.
