MG Motor continues to overhaul its senior management structure, filling key roles.
Following Satinder Singh Bajwa’s appointment as Chief Business Officer in January, the business engaged Rakesh Sen to oversee national sales.
Sen joins MG Motor after working with Mahindra & Mahindra for nearly three decades and will report to Bajwa.
The role of head of sales has been vacant since Rakesh Sidana’s retirement in June 2023, after which MG Motor divided the sales job between two regional leaders. Following Bajwa’s arrival, a new structure is being put in place. With the string of recent vehicle launches delivering sub-optimal sales, MG Motor has been compelled to resort to some significant measures right from reducing vehicle prices to restructuring the organisation.
The major churn at the top happens at a time when the company has also been able to bring in fresh equity into the company with JSW Group deciding to invest into the brand.
MG Motor at the beginning of 2023, had set itself a target of selling over 1 lakh vehicles, but it managed to sell about 56,000 units. While the average sales were about 4700 units in the last calendar year, and this, despite the product upgrades and the launch of the Comet EV – which was expected to bring in incremental sales of about 1500 units per month, the model has been averaging around 600 units per month since launch.
Sen who served as the VP of sales operations at Mahindra and Mahindra, will look to improve the momentum. He was steering the sales planning, logistics, preowned business, and sales operation role which included sales strategy, channel retail finance, institutional sales, rural sales, and commercial pricing at M&M, which may come in handy at MG Motor.
Sen spent his entire career at M&M, from the regional manager level to national sales head for the electric vehicle business, to the most recent position as VP of sales operation.
