Electric “Mohalla Buses” have been deployed in Delhi by PMI Electro Mobility as a trial project to improve last-mile connectivity. A Mohalla Bus was hailed off at Nehru Place Metro Station by Somnath Bharti, a member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, and Saurabh Bhardwaj, the Urban Development Minister of the Delhi NCT. The Delhi Legislative Assembly member Parmila Tokas simultaneously pushed off another bus from the Vasant Vihar Metro Station.
The project gives Delhi’s public transportation system 9-meter air-conditioned, low-floor electric buses. These cars are made to make places that were previously inaccessible to regular buses more accessible.
According to PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd. CEO Dr. Aanchal Jain, the company wants to help Delhi realize its objective for sustainable public transportation. The buses are equipped with fire extinguisher systems, CCTV cameras, emergency stop buttons, and accessibility ramps, among other safety features.
Buses from the Vasant Vihar and Nehru Place Metro Stations will run as part of the test initiative, providing service to several South Delhi neighborhoods. On certain buses, female passengers will be admitted free of charge.
It is anticipated that approximately 3,000 passengers will make use of this service each day. Government representatives and executives from PMI Electro Mobility attended the occasion, which signaled the start of a new era in the development of public transit in Delhi.
