According to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, India would not tailor its regulations to the electric vehicle maker Tesla, located in the United States.
He stated that the country’s legislation and tariff rules would be geared to attract all-electric vehicle manufacturers from across the world, emphasising that the government intends to create a robust EV ecosystem in order to cut carbon emissions and lower the country’s large oil import cost.
Goyal clarified that the government will not create policies specific to any individual company, in responding to Tesla’s request for tariff concessions.
The minister highlighted ongoing initiatives involving consultations with stakeholders and potential investors worldwide, affirming a commitment to encouraging all-electric vehicle manufacturers to establish a presence in India.
Goyal reiterated the government’s recognition of the multifaceted benefits of promoting electric mobility, addressing environmental concerns, reducing pollution, and contributing to economic growth and stability.
