According to Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, the state government has offered a total subsidy of Rs 154.27 crore to electric vehicle (EV) owners from the fiscal year 2022-23. In a written testimony to the legislature, Jena stated that EV sales in Odisha had increased since the state began granting incentives on September 1, 2021.
Jena stated that Rs 8.83 crore in subsidies were provided in 2022-23, with a large increase to Rs 57.21 crore in 2023-24.
The government granted incentives for 14,182 EV registrations in 2022-23, which increased to 36,518 in 2023-24. By August 2024, subsidies had already been provided for 38,766 EVs registered during the current fiscal year.
Jena added that the state provides a maximum subsidy of Rs 20,000 for two-wheelers (Rs 5,000 per kilowatt hour) and Rs 30,000 for electric three-wheelers.
