Nissan gave a tour of its all-solid-state battery pilot line, which is now under development, at its Yokohama Plant in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Nissan has revealed plans to establish a pilot line aimed at advancing the development and manufacturing technologies for all-solid-state batteries, the company announced. This initiative aligns with Nissan’s Ambition 2030 long-term vision, which targets the launch of electric vehicles (EVs) equipped with these advanced batteries by fiscal year 2028. The pilot line underscores Nissan’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation in the electric vehicle sector, with a focus on enhancing battery performance and sustainability.
Due to of their improved charge and discharge performance, all-solid-state batteries have the potential to have an energy density that is about twice that of traditional lithium-ion batteries, a much quicker charging time, and cheaper costs since they are made of less expensive materials. These batteries will be a game-changer for electric vehicles. Nissan intends to increase the competitiveness of its EVs by using all-solid-state battery technology across a variety of vehicle categories, including pickup trucks.
Nissan is involved in a wide range of research and development activities, including the development of electric vehicles, cities employing EVs as storage batteries, and molecular-level research on battery materials. Nissan is accelerating development with the aim of real-world adoption by using this experience.
