MG Motor India is set to introduce the highly modified Gloster to the Indian market, and the MG Cloud EV is anticipated to follow. Recent public patent photos suggest that SAIC, the parent company of MG, is getting ready to introduce the Bingo EV as a possible competitor to the Tiago EV in India.
In addition to being sold in regions like Indonesia, the Bingo hatchback made its premiere in China. The Bingo is a true five-door hatchback with lots of curved surfaces and unique features, unlike the Comet, although it shares certain interior features with the Comet, so it looks rather familiar.
These consist of the steering wheel, additional control buttons and stalks, and the dual-screen arrangement for infotainment and instrumentation functions. The automobile appears more expensive than it is thanks to soft interior accents and subtle chrome accents.
In terms of platform, it is similar to the Comet and the soon-to-be Cloud EV, both of which are born EVs on the GSEV (Global Small Electric Vehicle) platform. With a length of 3,950 mm, the Bingo is marginally longer than the Tiago but boasts a level floor and more cabin space because of its born EV platform.
The Bingo in its entry-level avatar gets a 17.3kWh battery and a 41hp motor. This variant has around 203km range on China’s CLTC cycle. The top-spec Bingo gets a larger 31.9kWh battery and a 68hp motor good for 333km (CLTC) of range. In contrast, the lower-spec Tiago EV gets a 19.2kWh battery with an MIDC range of 250km and a 61hp motor. The long-range versions have a 24kWh pack that has a range of 315km (MIDC), powering a 75hp motor.
As reported earlier, MG Motor India has its hands full with the upcoming market launches of the updated Gloster and the Cloud EV. While both models will go on sale in India this year, the brand has also lined-up multiple special editions, which include the “Blackstorm” and upcoming “Desert Storm” range. As for the Bingo, we expect this hatchback to come to India sometime next year.
