With a hybrid drivetrain and improved off-road capabilities, Mercedes-Benz debuted the Mercedes-AMG G 63, their most recent version of the legendary G-Class. A 48-volt electrical system and an integrated starter generator complement the new G 63’s bespoke 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine.
The hybrid system adds an extra 15 kW to the powertrain’s 430 kW and 850 Nm of torque. The car has an electronically regulated top speed of 240 kmph and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.3 seconds.
The suspension system of the G 63 has undergone a comprehensive revamp and now includes hydraulic roll stabilization and AMG Active Ride Control. Mercedes claims that the system uses active hydraulic components in place of traditional mechanical anti-roll bars and that adaptive shock absorbers with dual hydraulic connections provide better comfort and handling.
While adding new features like the AMG logo on the hood and vertical louvers in the front bumper, the exterior keeps the G-Class’s distinctive look. The car has an updated off-road cockpit with two 12.3-inch screens inside and augmented reality navigation.
One noteworthy improvement is the “Transparent Hood” feature, which can be accessed via the off-road menu and helps with difficult terrain navigation. Important data, such as tire pressure, steering angle, altitude, compass readings, and vehicle orientation, are shown on the off-road control unit of the car.
