Indian mobility giant, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility (LMM) has achieved another milestone by becoming No.1 manufacturer of electric 3-wheelers FY’23.
LMM recently broke ground on a new production unit at its current facility in Zaheerabad, Telangana.
With their unrivaled Total Cost of Ownership, outstanding savings, and noiseless and pollution-free travel, electric 3-wheelers are one of the country’s major contributors to car electrification.
These EVs will help India meet its aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2070.
The Government of India’s Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has published the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for certification of Domestic Value Addition (DVA) under the PLI-Auto Scheme.M&M is the PLI-Auto Scheme’s Champion OEM, and it participates with a wide range of electric 3- and 4-wheelers.
The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) plan intends to give financial incentives to enable scalability and the development of a stable and robust supply chain in the fields of Advanced Automotive Technology (AAT) goods, while also creating new job possibilities.
M&M welcomes the publication of this SOP, which will give clarity to PLI applicants and allow them to seek certification of their goods with testing organizations. We applaud the MHI’s participatory approach in developing these recommendations.
Furthermore, the authority granted by MHI to testing agencies to relax the provisions of the SOP recognizes the complexity of the automotive industry’s supply chain, which is a positive step.
“Mahindra is one of the leading players in the electrification of last mile mobility, and we appreciate the support of the Indian Government to promote EVs through the PLI scheme as well as the release of these SOPs. The PLI will help us introduce more sustainable, technology-driven, and affordable 3-wheeler EVs in India and contribute to a greener future for all”, said Suman Mishra, CEO of Mahindra Last Mile Mobility.
