Goa government has been in the process of purchasing 48 brand-new electric vehicles (EVs) for the Smart City project in Panaji.
Preceding that, in any case, ten of these transports will be controlled by Kadamba Transport Company (KTC) to serve agents of the forthcoming G20 gatherings in Goa, starting April 17.
These transports have been acquired under the Distinction (Quicker Reception and Assembling of Mixture and Electric Vehicles in India)- II Plan. Conductors will not be required to operate these 7- and 9-meter mini buses.
According to reports, transport director Rajan Satardekar stated, “Deploying the EVs by KTC will add value to the G20 Summit, which is a prestigious event.”
“The government is keen to host the delegates nicely and there is no better way to do that than using EVs instead of several small vehicles,” he stated.
Two starred hotels on the outskirts of Panaji will host the eight G20 meetings that are scheduled to take place in Goa.
KTC general manager Derek Pereira Neto stated, “We have received special permission to operate these buses for the G20 Summit. Because the deadline for the completion of the works is June 30, the vehicles will then be directly used for the Smart City project by July,” he stated.
By June, the remaining 38 buses are anticipated to arrive in the state.
These electric vehicles will be connected to smart bus stops that will be installed throughout Panaji and its outskirts. The bus pick-up and drop-off points will be displayed on LED screens, and the EV timings will be displayed on smart bus stops.

An Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) will be connected to the EVs so that users can plan their trips, track buses, and choose the best route.
Passengers will be able to view bus details, vehicle locations in real-time, the anticipated arrival time, and travel durations on their smartphones. The passenger will be given a one-of-a-kind QR code to use to pay for the bus fare.
“We will have a few modes of transport working intracity too,” Satardekar said.
