An all-new electric vehicle (EV) based on the Wuling Cloud EV, which parent company SAIC sells abroad, will soon be introduced in India by MG Motor India. It has been officially announced that the CUV will be called the “Windsor EV.”
In MG’s most recent teaser, viewers are asked to use a series of scrambled letters to figure out the name of the next EV. But it will be dubbed the Windsor EV, as confirmed by the manufacturer’s name and logo trademarks submitted a few months ago. On August 5, MG will formally unveil the vehicle’s name.
The Windsor EV (Wuling Cloud EV) gets two battery pack options overseas: a 37.9kWh and a 50.6kWh, with 360km and 460km range, respectively. It’s powered by a front-axle-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 134hp, but it’s yet to be confirmed which version will be made available here.
While the Windsor EV has the shape and stance of an MPV, it accommodates only five passengers across two rows, which essentially makes it a large hatchback. Dubbed a ‘CUV’, the Windsor EV is expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh. At this price point, it will sit below the ZS EV in MG’s portfolio, and compete with the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV400.
