Megha Engineering & Infrastructures subsidiary, Olectra Greentech has introduced a hydrogen bus in technical collaboration with Reliance.
The hydrogen bus is an alternative to traditional public transport and is completely carbon-free.
According to the company, the move was made in response to the loss of natural resources as well as the adverse effects of pollution and other emissions on air quality and transportation.
The low-floor 12-meter bus can carry between 32 and 49 passengers and one driver. The bus can travel 400 km on a single hydrogen tank.
Refueling takes only 15 minutes.
The company claims that this initiative will assist the Indian government in achieving its carbon-free hydrogen ambitions.
Hydrogen buses emit only water from their tailpipes. This unique selling proposition is what makes the hydrogen buses so attractive for replacing old petrol and diesel systems with greener ones.
Type-4 hydrogen cylinders are installed on top of buses to provide a reliable system. The cylinders are also resistant to temperatures between -20 & +85 degrees Celsius.
These buses will be commercially available within one year, according to the company.
