Honda has announced to unveil a new global series of electric cars at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas on 9 January 2024.
There is currently little information regarding the shapes these new EVs will take, but a teaser image released by the company shows a low-set, streamlined front end of one. It is a significant departure from the Japanese brand’s previous vehicles, with smooth, basic surfaces, a chin spoiler, and flush light bars.
The wheel design is flat and geometric, comparable to the designs used on the new Peugeot e-3008 and Renault Scenic E-Tech. Along with the announcement, Honda reaffirmed its goal of becoming an all-electric brand by 2040 and achieving net-zero carbon emissions emissions by 2050.
Much of the brand’s recent work has focused on the latter, experimenting with novel materials and building processes. The Honda Sustaina-C concept, which debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show in October, was the most recent advancement in this area, with body panels composed completely of recycled acrylic resin.
The material, which may be recovered and reused after the Sustaina-C’s estimated lifespan, can also be left unpainted, lowering CO2 emissions even further. The same unpainted acrylic resin was used for the CI-MEV, a two-seat quadricycle-style pod for those who live in places where public transportation is scarce.
The goal is for such automobiles to establish a circular economy, which means that they will produce new cars without using new materials, instead recovering them from the existing car parc.
