By 2028, Honda Motor Co. Ltd. intends to construct an electric motorcycle manufacturing in India. The Japanese automaker also stated that it is aiming to overtake Hero MotoCorp, its former partner, as the market leader in India for two-wheelers.
By combining various modules, the new factory will create a variety of models. According to the business, it will begin with a commuter bike that has a 4kWh battery, which is the same as a 100cc motorcycle.
Similar to mid-sized motorbikes, the plant will be able to produce electric bikes. Additionally, Honda is developing criteria for stable procurement in collaboration with battery manufacturers.
Honda has big hopes to become the top producer of electric motorcycles in India, despite its late entry into the EV market. According to the corporation, it plans to use its knowledge of internal combustion engine (ICE) technology to launch more EV vehicles in the future, including ones with fixed batteries.
It is anticipated that the new electric motorbike factory will be constructed in Karnataka, close to Honda’s current two-wheeler plant in Narasapura, which is close to Bengaluru. This development’s main objective is to satisfy the rising demand for electric motorcycles in the country. But Honda also views this plant as a hub for exporting to developing nations looking for less expensive options.
