A cutting-edge electric trial bike, the RTL ELECTRIC, has been unveiled by Honda in preparation for the sixth round of the 2024 MFJ*1 All Japan Trial Championship Series in Wakayama/Yuasa. This launch is a significant step toward Honda’s objective of having its motorbike lineup become carbon neutral by the 2040s and demonstrates the company’s dedication to transforming motorcycle sports.
The Montesa COTA 4RT, which is well-known for its supremacy in the trial bike industry, has a high-performance rival in the RTL ELECTRIC. With a battery from the CR ELECTRIC PROTO motocross bike that has been modified for the particular requirements of trials, the RTL ELECTRIC aims to outperform its gasoline-powered predecessor. The bike has key parts including a clutch, flywheel, and transmission, and the motor and inverter work together to provide high output performance.
Based on Honda’s RTL series, the recently designed aluminum twin-tube frame provides optimal rigidity for improved riding stability and lighter weight. Furthermore, the swing arm and EV component location of the bike have been designed to provide the optimal center of gravity, improving maneuverability in demanding test conditions.
In addition to trial motorcycles, Honda is making a strong push into electric motorbike sports. The CR ELECTRIC PROTO is a competitor in the global FIM*2 E-Xplorer World Cup, a series specifically for electric off-road bikes, and has previously established itself as a wildcard entry in the All Japan Motocross Championship from the previous year. Honda hopes to improve its electric technologies and show off the possibilities of electric motorcycles in competitive sports by participating in competitions such as the All Japan Trial Championship Series.
