Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has revealed a strategic roadmap for its hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) business in addition to revolutionary improvements to its original 2-motor hybrid system, the Honda e:HEV. The declaration is in line with Honda’s aggressive plans to switch to all battery-electric and fuel cell vehicles by 2040 and become carbon neutral by 2050.
With smooth transitions between EV Drive Mode, Hybrid Drive Mode, and Engine Drive Mode, the next-generation e:HEV system offers enhanced efficiency, performance, and driving enjoyment. In comparison to first-generation hybrid cars, Honda hopes to increase fuel efficiency by more than 10% with updated engines, drive units, and control technology for small and mid-size systems.
The introduction of an electric all-wheel drive (E-AWD) unit for increased stability and acceleration, as well as a new Honda S+ Shift feature that improves driving dynamics without sacrificing environmental performance, are important advancements. In addition to improving driving stability, the new mid-size platform achieves over 60% model commonality, 10% vehicle weight reduction, and cost-effective production.
Honda plans to lower the price of its hybrid-electric models by 50% by 2027 compared to 2018 in order to increase the accessibility of these vehicles. By 2030, the company intends to sell 1.3 million hybrid vehicles worldwide, guaranteeing profitability and accelerating the transition to sustainable mobility.
A new chapter in Honda’s dedication to providing “the joy of mobility” and environmental stewardship will be marked by the introduction of the advancements in the all-new Honda Prelude, which is slated for release in 2025.
