Japanese automaker Honda is getting ready to map out its own electrification route in India as the country’s automotive market prepares for a flood of electric vehicles from all of the country’s major automakers. By launching one fully electric car and powerful hybrid drivetrains, the business plans to carve out a space for itself in the electric vehicle market in 2026–2027.
“We’ll be launching three models between 2026 and 2027. Elevate and two other vehicles serve as the basis for the first battery-electric car. We can assume that those three models will be battery-electric or hybrid cars. “We will continue to introduce and increase the proportion of electrified vehicles as part of the global company’s policy,” stated Takuya Tsumura, president and CEO of Honda Cars India.
According to the management, Honda chose to begin its electrification journey with a battery electric car instead of a powerful hybrid because it believes that electric vehicles are essential in light of the anticipated introduction of CAFÉ 3 standards in 2027. For this reason, we choose to begin with Elevate-based electric cars. However, Tsumura added, “other future lines will also have hybrid technology.”
The carmaker believes that strong hybrids are more pertinent in the current Indian automotive sector when compared to plug-in hybrids, strong hybrids, and range extenders. However, more information about the hybrid lineup’s plan was not revealed by the management.
