Eversource Capital-backed GreenCell Mobility has announced a power purchase agreement and a strategic equity investment in a 1 MW wind solar hybrid captive power plant in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, supported via its subsidiary GreenCell Express. The facility has a capacity of 4.6 million units per year.
GreenCell Express offers intercity electric buses under the “NueGo” name. According to the corporation, the development would see its inter-city electric buses in the state fueled primarily by renewable energy, resulting in incremental CO2 savings of 38 thousand metric tonnes during the vehicles’ lifetime.
Devndra Chawla, CEO and MD of GreenCell Mobility, said, “At GreenCell Mobility, we are not just about embracing the future; we are about creating it. This initiative of powering our EVs through renewable energy sources in Madhya Pradesh is more than an innovation; it’s a commitment to our planet and our future generations. We are setting a precedent in the industry, demonstrating that sustainable practises can go hand-in-hand with business growth.”
According to the corporation, GreenCell Mobility is aggressively pursuing similar agreements in other areas where it operates. The company’s goal is to totally migrate away from grid power and toward renewable energy (RE) sources. GreenCell is also investigating the deployment of battery energy storage systems to ensure that its activities are environmentally friendly from start to finish. GreenCell is actively working with both federal and state partners to assist regulatory reforms that will increase the usage of renewable energy for e-buses, according to the company.
