The central government intends to convert its own transportation fleet to electric vehicles in an attempt to encourage the quicker adoption and penetration of zero emission vehicles.
Speaking at FICCI National Conference on Electric Vehicles, Prime Minister’s office advisor Tarun Kapoor stated that they will attempt to promote government procurement of EVs.
In order to help states electrify their government fleets, the federal government will also offer interest-free loans.
“From the government side as well, we now want to focus on driving this sector so that we become a global manufacturing hub in addition to having an increasing number of electric cars, buses, and two-wheelers on the road,” Kapoor continued.
In order to boost EV adoption in the nation, he also emphasized the necessity of reducing the goods and services tax (GST) on EV batteries and charging infrastructure.
In addition, the government seeks to electrify every ambulance in the nation.
According to the Prime Minister, ambulances ought to be modified. I asked the industry to provide some high-quality ambulances. Thus, the government would allocate cash in that particular location,” he continued.
The government is now working on a number of initiatives to increase the nation’s adoption of EVs.
In order to meet India’s target of becoming a nation with 100% electric vehicles, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal asked industry participants to ensure a swift transition to electric mobility earlier this month.
