Since 2016, General Motors (GM) has sold more than 300,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in the US, marking a major milestone in the EV sector. As of the third quarter of 2024, GM is the second-largest EV seller in the United States, with a total of over 370,000 EV sales across North America.
GM shipped nearly 32,000 all-electric cars in the U.S. in Q3 2024 alone, a 46% increase from the previous quarter and a 60% increase from the previous year. This increase is a result of GM’s deliberate decision to provide a wide range of EV cars, including high-performance models like the GMC HUMMER EV, premium models like the Cadillac LYRIQ, and affordable options like the Chevy Equinox EV.
In addition to manufacturing EVs, GM is making infrastructural investments to facilitate the transition for customers. These investments include extending the reach of public charging stations and launching backup power-capable at-home charging options. In order to accommodate a variety of consumer choices and keep a laser-like focus on EV innovation, GM is simultaneously expanding its assortment of gasoline and diesel vehicles.
GM is steadfast in its resolve to make electric driving available to everyone as it anticipates upcoming models like the Cadillac OPTIQ and ESCALADE IQ. GM claims that these achievements are the result of decades of engineering and research, and that more will follow as the business moves faster toward an all-electric future.
