Giving a major boost to the public transportation of Nagpur, Maharashtra government has recently allocated Rs 137 crore to purchase 250 e-buses in Nagpur.
At a recent function in the city, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis announced that the fund would be provided.
The fund has been received by the transport department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
The NMC electric bus fleet is expected to grow, and the costs of operating city buses will be reduced.
A senior official in the NMC transport department said that “the NMC has already floated a tender for the appointment of a technical advisor.”
The NMC generates a monthly revenue of Rs 6 Crores from its Aapli bus service. However, it incurs expenses of Rs 14 Crores to operate the service.
The NMC has introduced 74 Electric buses including 28 air-conditioned midi buses.
The official said that another 12 AC electric buses purchased by Smart City are already on their way and could join the Aapli Bus Fleet next week.
The NMC has replaced 60 standard diesel buses of its Aapli Bus fleet, and introduced 74 electric buses, including 28 airconditioned midi buses.
The UP-based PMI too will start delivering 144 AC midi electrical buses in phases by the end of this month. M
unicipal commissioner and administrator Radhakrishnan B had announced plans to replace all diesel buses in the NMC transport service with environment-friendly electric buses.
Meanwhile, the number of passengers travelling in airconditioned Aapli Bus has increased by almost 100 times.
