In partnership with Audi, Forvia Hella has created an entirely new headlight concept for the Q6 e-tron. Its unique feature is that the front lighting not only achieves adaptive lighting features like glare-free high beam but also features a digital daytime running light matrix that lets customers choose from up to eight preset designs the digital light signature they want for the daytime running light.
It is consequently possible to customize the Matrix LED headlamps’ appearance to a great extent.
The digital daytime running light matrix gives end users the option of selecting their preferred daytime running light signature from up to eight preset designs.
“Audi and Forvia Hella are breaking new ground with the headlight concept for the Q6 e-tron. LED lighting signatures have long been indispensable for the characteristic, emotional design language of vehicles,” says Yves Andres, who is responsible for the global lighting business at Forvia Hella as a member of the Management Board. “However, with the concept that we have brought into series production together with Audi for the Q6 e-tron, we are now opening up new degrees of freedom for end consumers to help shape the appearance of the vehicle front.”
Forvia Hella has created a headlamp concept for the Q6 e-tron’s front lighting that, depending on the bodywork design, visibly splits the lighting elements into two regions. The primary “seeing” region is the lower area: The 14 LEDs in a matrix LED headlight allow for glare-free high beam, which allows you to drive with the high beam always on without blinding approaching traffic. Conversely, the top component serves as a display for “being seen,” which consists of the digital daytime running lights along with the related customization and design features. The Audi Q6 e-tron’s programmable digital light signature is produced via a digital daytime running light matrix made up of 61 separately switchable elements that are integrated into each headlight.
Through the use of a software-based app or the Multimedia Interface (MMI) of the completely electric SUV, the end user may then customize the daytime running light designs—which include particularly tailored Coming Home/Leaving Home scenes—to suit their own preferences.
The matrix LED headlamps are made in the Czech Republic, and a Chinese local variant is also produced there for the Chinese market. The Czech Republic and Germany are the locations of series development.
