Ford Pro and Southern Company have begun a six-month pilot program to provide a comprehensive electrification strategy for businesses in the southeastern United States as part of a ground-breaking push to assist the growing trend toward electric vehicles (EVs).
More than 100,000 EVs have been registered in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi as a result of increased fuel prices and the potential for lower overall expenditures that come with EV ownership. Ford ProTM and Atlanta-based Southern Company, a top energy supplier to more than 587,000 businesses, are collaborating to maximize EV adoption methods for commercial fleets in recognition of this trend.
More than 150 Ford Pro Chargers, including cutting-edge Level 2 AC and Level 3 DC chargers, and more than 200 Ford F-150® Lightning® trucks will be used in the trial program across Southern Company subsidiaries. The partnership will concentrate on lowering total costs of ownership, increasing vehicle uptime, and enhancing fleet charging procedures.
The project will benefit greatly from the extensive data collection and analytics provided by Ford Pro Intelligence1 and Ford Pro Charging Software2. These tools will assist in optimizing energy use through demand response curtailment tactics, especially during periods of peak demand. In addition to improving fleet management, the pilot will help Southern Company assist its commercial and industrial clients with their own EV conversions.
