Eve Air Mobility has partnered with Hunch Mobility, planning to introduce electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) commuter flights in Bangalore.
This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in the evolution of urban air mobility, with Bangalore poised to become the inaugural city in the region to embrace this groundbreaking transportation initiative.
In a collaborative effort, Eve and Hunch Mobility will engage with local, state, and federal authorities, as well as infrastructure, energy, and technology providers.
The primary objective is to establish the necessary groundwork for the seamless integration of eVTOL aircraft flights into Bangalore’s urban landscape.
Johann Bordais, CEO of Eve Air Mobility, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in shaping the urban air mobility ecosystem in India. He stated, “India is an incredibly important market for urban air mobility, and our goal is to work with Hunch Mobility to provide residents with an additional efficient and affordable mode of transportation to ease commuting times in one of the most heavily populated cities in the world.”
Amit Dutta, Director of Hunch Mobility, highlighted the joint commitment to address India’s road congestion challenges. “This collaboration with Eve Air Mobility underscores the commitment to contribute to India’s growth story by addressing the bottleneck of road congestion in the country. We look forward to introducing eVTOL flights that will democratize short-haul air mobility by offering affordable ticket fares and zero carbon emission.”
Bangalore, home to over 13 million people, faces significant challenges related to population density and traffic congestion. The introduction of electric aviation through eVTOL vehicles is anticipated to alleviate these issues by reducing the carbon footprint, noise pollution, and overall flying costs, thereby making air travel more accessible to the masses.
Eve’s eVTOL, which boasts a 100% electric design and a 100-kilometer range, is positioned as an efficient and eco-friendly solution for urban commuting. Operating on a lift + cruise configuration, the aircraft utilizes dedicated rotors for vertical flight and fixed wings for cruising, eliminating the need for component repositioning during flight. While piloted initially, Eve’s eVTOL aims to transition to uncrewed operations in the future.
This groundbreaking initiative took root when Eve became the first eVTOL manufacturer to announce a Letter of Intent (LOI) in India, with Hunch Mobility committing to the purchase of 200 eVTOLs, services, and Eve’s Urban Air Traffic Management solution. The partnership embarked on a three-month pilot project involving intra-city helicopter flights in Bangalore, gathering valuable data on operations and customer experiences. This data is now shaping the ongoing development of Eve’s eVTOL aircraft, air traffic management solutions, and customer support services.
Beyond revolutionizing transportation, Eve and Hunch Mobility anticipate a positive economic impact on the Bangalore community.
The introduction of eVTOL flights is expected to create employment opportunities, ranging from pilots and aircraft service technicians to training and technical support roles. The development of essential infrastructure will further contribute value and additional job opportunities to the community.
As Eve’s eVTOL aims to enter into service in 2026, the collaborative efforts of Eve Air Mobility and Hunch Mobility set the stage for a transformative era in sustainable urban air mobility for Bangalore, India.
