The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has placed a sizable order with EV manufacturer EKA Mobility for the provision of 250 electric buses. The implementation of these e-buses is consistent with NMC’s objective of providing a dependable, eco-friendly, and effective public transportation network. The new fleet will run on busy city routes, lowering operating expenses and emissions while raising the standard of public transportation.
Previously, this service was provided to Hansa Vahan, formerly known as M/s Hansa Travels. Hansa Travels has teamed with EKA Mobility to construct and deliver air-conditioned 12-meter e-buses. For the length of operation, they will also carry out an annual maintenance contract. Each bus has a sitting capacity for 41 passengers and a standing capacity for an extra 24 commuters.
“This partnership with Nagpur Municipal Corporation marks another critical step towards India’s transition to clean energy mobility,” said Rohit Srivastava, Chief Growth Officer of EKA Mobility, in reference to the development. Being a part of Nagpur’s transformation into one of India’s most sustainable cities excites us. Additionally, this transaction demonstrates EKA Mobility’s expanding market share and leadership in the electric car industry. Our goal is to increase the sustainability and accessibility of public transportation, thus we will keep offering green mobility solutions to Indian cities and assisting them in reaching their clean energy targets.
EKA has launched its e-buses in Delhi, working as Uber shuttles at the airport and for Uber Eats, as well as at Pune International Airport, in collaboration with equity partners Mitsui (Japan) and VDL Groep (Netherlands). In order to supply electric delivery vans in India, the business has also established a strategic collaboration with Swedish furnishing store IKEA.
