The public’s reaction to the plan to subsidise the purchase of E-Vehicles (EVs) in Goa (GEDA) has not been as anticipated. Merely 25% of the targeted 5,600 e-Vehicles (EVs) have sought for the subsidy, even though the state government intends to subsidise them every year.
The current plan, which was unveiled by a cabinet decision in February, gives EV owners who bought their vehicles after August 2022 a ninety-day window to request for subsidies. The prior programme has been replaced; it ran from December 2021 to July 2022.
This project is being implemented under the direction of the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA), which has so far received little over 1,100 applications.
The program’s goal is to encourage the use of e-Vehicles (EVs) across a range of vehicle classes, with a focus on two-wheelers, shared and public transportation, and freight carriers.
Launched in December 2021, the GEDA’s primary goal was to increase the market share of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to 25% of all new vehicle registrations by 2024. This would have a positive impact on the environment by reducing noise levels, greenhouse gas emissions, and the transportation sector’s use of fossil fuels.
