Following its commitment for sustainable transportation, Delhi Transport Minister, Kailash Gahlot has announced that Delhi will have around 1,500 electric buses by the end of 2023.
He was inspecting the preparation of a bus depot in the Savda Ghevra area.
The bus depot is being constructed to park electric buses with a cost of Rs 60 crores. The depot is spread over 7.8 acres and can provide a parking facility for 200 electric buses.
“Delhi will soon have the first lot of the 1,500 electric buses being procured by the government and all the buses are scheduled to arrive by the end of this year,” Gahlot said.
Delhi already has 3 operational bus depots at Mundela Kalan, Rajghat, and Rohini Sector 37 with parking and charging facilities for electric buses.
According to the statement, charging infrastructure has been installed in an additional 9 depots to accommodate the upcoming delivery of electric buses in the coming months.
These depots will serve as parking spaces for the electric buses.
