By manufacturing its 100,000th all-electric car in 2024—a BMW iX1 finished in Blue Bay Lagoon metallic—BMW Group Plant Regensburg achieved a noteworthy milestone. BMW AG Board Member for Production Milan Nedeljković was present to celebrate the milestone. The car is headed to La Réunion, completing the plant’s global expansion.
The facility has been producing high-end small models, such as the BMW iX1 and iX2, for clients all over the world from November 2022. Despite difficult market conditions, the team achieved the anticipated growth in 2024, which was commended by Plant Director Armin Ebner. According to Ebner, “more than a third of the vehicles produced this year were electrified,” and production is expected to surpass 330,000 units in 2024, up from 238,301 in 2023.
In keeping with BMW’s “iFactory” mission, the plant’s transition into a digital and sustainable manufacturing hub was acknowledged with awards such “FACTORY OF THE YEAR 2024.” Ebner complimented the plant team’s and its partners’ commitment to the success.
1,400 BMW X1 and X2 cars, including combustion-engine, plug-in hybrid, and completely electric versions, are being manufactured daily at the BMW Group Plant Regensburg, which has been in operation since 1986. Plans to produce BMW’s NEUE KLASSE vehicles in the upcoming years highlight the company’s ongoing emphasis on electromobility.
