With the start of test vehicle production for its Neue Klasse electric cars, BMW Group’s state-of-the-art factory in Debrecen has achieved a significant milestone. As the factory enters its last preparatory phase for series production set for late 2025, the first near-series fully-electric X vehicles are coming off the assembly line.
“A significant milestone in commissioning the new plant is the production of the first test vehicles in Debrecen,” stated Milan Nedeljković, Board Member for manufacturing at BMW AG.
Test vehicles are going through whole production cycles as part of BMW’s meticulous planning in order to optimize labor operations, manufacturing systems, and logistics. Every stage of production and part delivery is examined in real-world settings to ensure sure every component satisfies the high criteria set by the automaker.
This pre-production stage, where state-of-the-art systems and digital networking technologies are extensively evaluated, is supported by daily supplies of materials and components. In the upcoming months, additional improvements will be made based on the insights gathered from these testing, with an emphasis on maximizing effectiveness and quality.
During the ramp-up phase, new hires receive thorough training on cutting-edge equipment and procedures. In order to ensure a smooth transition into full-scale series production, seamless coordination across production units is being prioritized.
BMW’s dedication to promoting electric mobility is demonstrated by this historic Debrecen development, and the Neue Klasse is expected to be a key component of the automaker’s sustainable transportation program.
