Audi has declared that in line with its global strategy, it will only sell electric cars (EVs) in India starting in 2026. This is a calculated step towards sustainable mobility. In a special interview with Zigwheels, Head of Audi India Balbir Singh Dhillon reaffirmed this change and emphasised Audi’s dedication to the Indian market.
“In 2021, our Board of Management unveiled the corporate strategy ‘Vorsprung 2030,’ marking our accelerated transition towards electric mobility,” stated Dhillon. “This strategy outlines our commitment to cease production of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by 2033, with the last new ICE-powered model scheduled for 2025. This shift will not only prioritize EVs but also enhance our focus on advanced software and technology, crucial for meeting evolving customer expectations.”
Despite the transition to EVs, Audi plans to continue supporting its existing ICE lineup with facelifts and updates until 2033, ensuring ongoing service for current customers. The company’s current global EV portfolio includes models like the Q4 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, Q8 e-tron, and e-tron GT, with plans to introduce the Q6 e-tron in India by 2025. Additionally, Audi is developing the electric A6 e-tron and all-electric Audi A4 to expand its electric offerings.
Regarding upcoming releases in India, Dhillon highlighted the imminent launch of the Q8 facelift, featuring minor design enhancements both inside and out. The new model is expected to debut later this year with an anticipated price around Rs 1.3 crore.
Audi’s commitment to sustainability and technological advancement underscores its proactive approach in adapting to India’s evolving automotive landscape. With this strategic shift towards electric mobility, Audi aims to lead the charge in transforming the luxury car segment while meeting the rising demand for eco-friendly transportation solutions.
Audi India is prepared to redefine luxury and performance with its upcoming electric vehicle lineup, setting a new standard for automotive excellence in the country.
