Three large automakers, Atul Greentech Private Limited, Valeo India Private Limited, and Honda Power Pack Energy India (HEID) have joined up to launch battery-swappable electric three-wheelers, which is a big step forward for India’s electric car industry.
Through the agreement, two new vehicles are introduced: the ENERGIE SWAP for cargo, which delivers 74 kilometres per swap, and the MOBILI SWAP for passenger transport, which offers a 79-kilometer range per battery exchange. These cars are designed to solve a major issue with the uptake of electric vehicles: charging downtime.
The partnership makes use of each company’s advantages: HEID’s battery exchange infrastructure, Valeo’s small 48V electric powertrain technology, and Atul’s proficiency in three-wheeler manufacturing. The potential impact of the relationship was highlighted by Jayakumar G, Group President and Managing Director of Valeo India, “This three-way engagement brings together the expertise required to accelerate the electrification of three-wheeler vehicles and reduce CO2 emissions.”
A division of Atul Auto Limited, Atul Greentech contributes its expertise in the design and production of electric three-wheelers for both local and foreign markets. The recently introduced compact powertrain system from Valeo, a leader in 48V systems worldwide, is intended especially for India’s small mobility vehicles. By facilitating rapid battery swaps and doing away with time-consuming charging stops, HEID’s battery switch stations complete the ecosystem.
The initiative is a calculated step to hasten the use of electric vehicles in India’s transportation industry, especially in urban logistics and last-mile connectivity. The alliance aims to make electric mobility more feasible and accessible for both fleet operators and individual users by tackling important issues like charging time and range anxiety.
