The largest carbon-related conference in Asia, the 15th Asia Pacific Carbon Black Conference, came to an end in Kolkata. The event, which was held from October 21 to 23, 2024, with the theme “Carbon Black: Perspectives in Asia Pacific,” covered a number of topics related to the carbon black value chain, such as the automotive and tire industries, plastics, conductive carbon black, laboratory equipment, recycled black, and packaging.
Technical presentations, roundtable talks, and keynote addresses were all part of the conference. More than 30 kiosks and stalls were on show, and there were about 500 delegates from more than 20 nations. Aditya Birla Group, Thermax, Epsilon Carbon, PCBL, Birla Carbon, Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd., Saint Gobain, Doright Company Ltd., Thai Tokai Carbon, and Morgan Advanced Materials were among the important companies and leaders in the industry that took part.
The Chief Guest on the second day was West Bengal’s Chief Secretary, Dr. Manoj Pant. He urged businesspeople to invest in West Bengal’s industrial sector, highlighting the industry’s anticipated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.8%. Additionally, Pant emphasized how crucial the reclaim, recycle, and reuse concepts are to promoting the circular economy. He pointed out that the conversations on innovation and sustainability were crucial, especially in light of the growing need for battery parts and tires for electric vehicles.
By 2032, the estimated $28 billion worldwide carbon black market is expected to reach $42 billion, providing significant prospects, particularly in the Asia-Pacific area. By 2030, India wants 50% of its electricity to come from renewable sources. Tyres must alter to keep up with the increasing emphasis on lowering carbon footprints as vehicle design evolves. Given the old ASTM blacks would no longer be enough, this change opens up possibilities for innovation.
