In the occasion of its 58th Annual Day, the Ministry of Heavy Industries’ autonomous Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) highlighted the important contributions it has made to the development of the Indian automobile sector.
ARAI began as a vehicle testing agency on December 10, 1966, and has since grown into a comprehensive organization focused on certification, talent development, and research and development. By supporting the development of industry standards, encouraging the adoption of sustainable technology, and improving vehicle safety over time, it has helped bring the Indian automobile industry into line with international standards.
To achieve its goals, ARAI has recently added a number of cutting-edge facilities. These include an advanced noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) developmental center, a photometry and optics laboratory for accurate lighting evaluation, an airbag deployment facility, and an advanced accelerated sled for safety testing. By comparing automobiles to the New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) guidelines, these facilities play a crucial role in raising the bar for vehicle safety on a worldwide scale.
ARAI is building a new Mobility Research Centre (MRC) in Takwe to increase its capacity. A High Energy Impact Test (HEIT) setup, cylinder testing and certification units, a hydrogen testing facility, and an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) smart city test track will all be part of this facility.
ARAI’s Director, Dr. Reji Mathai, emphasized the organization’s continuous endeavors to meet the changing demands of the automotive sector. In addition to its dedication to promoting innovation through programs like mobility hackathons and events like BAJA, he highlighted ARAI’s development into industries like aircraft and railroads.
